Tales from the Book Nerd-13

…because we could all use a good book and a stiff drink.

Hello, all! I hope this newsletter finds you well.

Happy BEWICCHED: The Sea Wicche Chronicles Day! This is the first book in my new series. If you’ve read The Hob & Hound Pub or Biergarten of the Damned, you might remember Arwyn Corey, the wicche who made Sam’s magical chess set. This series focuses on Arwyn, her art gallery, her work with detectives tracking a serial killer, and her relationship with a lone wolf named Quinn.

The new series is set in the world of Sam Quinn. If you read The Banshee & the Blade, you’ve already met Arwyn. She’s the psychic Dave sees to help him find Maggie. Bewicched is set in Monterey, California (about 2-3 hours south of San Francisco, depending on whether it’s Sam or Clive driving). And, in case you were wondering, a couple of people from The Slaughtered Lamb might be visiting Arwyn

Early reviews have been great and my editor says this might be his favorite of my books. I really hope readers enjoy Arwyn, Declan, and the new gang.

For those who prefer listening to the audiobook, it’ll be out next week on May 9th. I’m very excited that Samantha Desz is again giving voice to my story.

Sam will be back this Halloween with The Viper’s Nest Roadhouse & Cafe. Clive’s maker Garyn is coming to San Francisco and vampy shenanigans will ensue. Stheno and her sister (the Vipers) will be opening a biker bar near the docks. If they build it, hot bikers will come.

Hey, UK readers! My agent tells me that The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore & Bar is a Kindle Deal (only in the UK) for the month of May. If you have friends you think might enjoy Sam’s story for only $0.99, please pass it on.

Happy reading!

Book Recommendation Corner

As I’m also a librarian, I want to share titles of amazing books you might want to pick up. I’ll switch up the genres in each newsletter. If you like any of the books I suggest, remember to write a quick review for it. Reviews helps authors

Literary Fiction Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. The story is set near Puget Sound in Washington State. There are three narrators: Tova, 70-year-old woman who cleans the town’s aquarium at night and has forged a friendship with an octopus, Marcellus, an aging and intelligent giant Pacific octopus, and Cameron, a down-on-his-luck guy arriving in town trying to find his father and instead finding a job at the aquarium. Beautiful storytelling and who can resist an octopus narrator?

Young Adult: As I’m a young adult librarian, you’ll see this genre in every newsletter. This month’s recommendation is Belladonna by Adalyn Grace, a wonderful dark fantasy. Signa has been watched over by Death her entire life. While family members have been taken from her, including her parents when she was quite young, he’s been looking out for her, keeping her alive when deadly things happen. It’s part mystery, part romance, and all gothic good fun. And it has the most beautiful cover art!

Romantic Suspense: Since LaNora has been taking some heat from people who don’t even read her books, I’ll recommend one of her stand-alone romantic suspense books: (there are soooo many, I’m having a hard time picking one…) The Witness by Nora Roberts. The main character reminded me a little of Dr. Temperance Brennan from the TV show Bones. Elizabeth is highly intelligent, studious woman with an eidetic memory. She goes out one night, at the urging of a friend, and cuts loose, meeting a mysterious man and witnessing a murder. She and her perfect memory can identify a high-ranking member of the Russian mob. She goes in the run, changes her identity, but still they pursue. Great book!

😊 Happy Reading!
