…because we could all use a good book and a stiff drink.

Hello, all! I hope this newsletter finds you well. In case you hadn’t heard (and why would you have?) THE HOB & HOUND PUB made the USA Today bestsellers list! You all made that happen, so thank you very much! The first thing I’d like to share with you is the cover of Sam’s next book THE BIERGARTEN OF THE DAMNED. This one will be out Oct. 4th, but preorders are available now.

Many readers have reached out to me, through email or on social media, to share their thoughts on the books. I’m shocked and heartened every time someone takes time out of their day to pass along kind words. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
Book Recommendation Corner Happy Pride Month edition!
As I’m also a librarian, I want to share titles of amazing books you might want to pick up. I’ll switch up the genres in each newsletter. If you like any of the books I suggest, remember to write a quick review for it. Reviews helps authors <3
Romance: Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. I’m a sucker for sweet, heartfelt rom-coms and I loved this one. Alex Claremont-Diaz is the son of our first female president, becoming something akin to American royalty. Henry actually is royalty of the British variety. Alex used to have a crush on Henry, until he met him. Henry was stiff and pompous and Alex was disgusted. Mostly. Soon politics is throwing them together and what starts out contentious becomes far more sweaty.
Young Adult: As I’m a young adult librarian, you’ll see this genre in every newsletter. This month’s recommendation is Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan. Lou has had a summer job at the broken-down amusement park the Magic Castle Playland since she started high school. Although she tried for princess this year, she is once again donning the hot dog costume. As her summer isn’t looking too promising, she decides to find her best friend Seeley a new girlfriend. While she tries, no one is quite right and it soon becomes clear exactly who would be right for Seeley and Lou. Adorable and funny.
Literary Fiction: The Color Purple by Alice Walker. I started to write about a few different books but kept coming back to this one. It’s a gorgeous, powerful book that should be on everyone’s read list. Celie is growing up in rural Georgia where she is despised and abused by the people who should be caring for her. She’s separated from her sister Nettie, the only person who loves her. Married off at a young age to a much older and horribly abusive husband, Celie begins writing letters to God which chronicle her growth and empowerment. She meets women, like Shug Avery, her husband’s mistress, who teach Celie that a touch doesn’t have to hurt and that a kiss can be desired. It is ultimately an uplifting book that will stay with you.
😊 Happy Reading!
